Welcome to the Red Dot collection

I named this collection Red Dot as a reference to the red dots that are placed beside pieces of work in a gallery show when they have been sold. All the pieces in this collection have sold as originals, there are however a select number of prints still available.

The work which forms Red Dot was created during the fifteen years when I lived in Brighton, a place with a very vibrant arts scene. So full of energy was it that I have very fond memories of spending my twenties living there, even though it was where I was diagnosed with the chronic illness which kept me bedridden for nearly two years. During this period I took my sketchbook and began to draw, and when I started feeling better, I returned to college to study Art Therapy at Goldsmiths in London. Both of these played a major part in my healing.

One of the most significant things about this course was rediscovering the simplicity of mark making as a creative process. I had been focused on such time-based work as installation, film and photography.

Once I was well enough to work I got a job in a new interiors boutique in the middle of the popular South Laine in Brighton. We became well known as a place to showcase new artists and eventually expanded to open a gallery alongside the shop. It was here that I was spotted by Flowers Gallery in London where my work was seen alongside that of Sir Terry Frost and Dion Salvador Lloyd.

During the time I lived and worked in Brighton two events happened which were of great significance. The first was the destruction of the West Pier by fire, and its resulting fall into dilapidation. For me to witness this once regal landmark unwittingly transform into something equally iconic after its 'destruction' struck such a deep chord with me. The second was the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York, and in pieces from this collection you can see echoes of both the towers and the pier. Each piece reflects what it was like for me to live through these major events and my parallel time of healing by the sea..
